New ideas abound. Everyone has them. I have hundreds of notebooks full of new ideas. Ideas aren’t the problem. Having a way to develop the idea, evaluate it, and then implement it is often the problem. Developing anything is tough, exhausting, and often soul-crushing. But, if you have a process to help you, it can give you the confidence to keep going and the skills to know why it isn’t working. This is the innovative process.
2. observe and listen
An innovation process is not new or mysterious. It is a straightforward way to understand the idea you have, observe and listen to what can be done, prototype a few ways to do it, measure how it went, evaluate its effectiveness, and ultimately work out if it is worth implementing or if you should move on to another idea.
Over the next five newsletters and live streams we will break down the 5 parts of our innovation process:
1. understand why, how, what
2. observe and listen
3. prototype and measure
4. evaluate
5. implement or stop.
Think of this as a pitch for why this is so valuable. Next year Project Nexus will be launching a series of short videos, in-depth webinars, short courses, coaching, and mentoring to help you apply the innovation process. For us, it is all about action, about seeing results for you as a leader, a leader capable of leading real change in your communities.
