As Christian leaders, there is often an expectation that we will always be the instigators, creators, or organisers of activities in our churches and our local communities.
That's what the job is right? Organising stuff.
But maybe the role of a leader is more about taking the time to see things that others don't. Paying attention to what God is doing in, through and around us. And showing others how they might step into these spaces.
What would it look like for us to put down our desperate need to be in control of every activity and begin a process of deeply listening to who and what is around us? Understanding the heartbeat of our surroundings, becoming a neighbour.
Our communities are full of existing activities, groups, and events that are full of people, with passion and purpose. What if we were to become a neighbour and join? Join spaces where we aren’t in control, where we didn’t have the idea, and become present people.
A prayerful presence in the midst of our community. Not in control, but present. What might God do in, through and around us as we learn to be a neighbour?
