I believe we are either investing more of ourselves in what we are passionate about, or we are waiting for a way out. You are either one or the other. There isn’t much middle ground.
Which one you are can be confusing. We can be unsure about what we are passionate about (or we don’t want to own it because we might get picked on).
Many of the places and organisations we invest in don’t know what they are passionate about either. When this happens we often choose to generously serve, which is fine. However, should an opportunity present itself to us that is in line with your own passions, we will probably switch to it.
Passion comes from knowing why we do something. This can be worked out over time as it develops. You don’t need to know everything before you start. However, you do need to keep asking the question, “Am I passionate about this? Or, am I just waiting for a better offer?”
Why is this important?
Because, when we invest in something with passion, the results are amazing. When we do it out of obligation, guilt, or pressure, the results suck the life out of us and those around us.
So here is the challenge: Ask yourself, What am I passionate about? It will probably be a few things, but not everything. If you are unsure, ask yourself again next week. Give yourself time to work it out. Commit to something and review it at the end of the year. Just don’t forget to keep asking, intentionally work it out. Discuss it with a friend or your pastor or a mentor.
Just promise me this: don’t be afraid to ask yourself the question. Don’t fear what others will say about it. You will be scared because everyone is but ask anyway. Then, when you start to clarify it, let God use it in ministry and mission. Then watch where God and your passions take you. I promise it will be amazing!
