The value of teamwork and collaboration

I used to think creating new things was a solo activity. You know; some super genius wildly creating in a mysterious studio or lab for months on end before popping out with a miracle.

I now know how valuable teams are to the creative process, and especially to do something new. You can call it a partnership, a collaboration, a team, an organisation. What is important to understand is that new things are created and implemented better and quicker in teams.

Teams matter, even if it is just two people.Here are the facts about creating new things:

No one creates in a vacuum. We all have been influenced by others.
Embrace your influences, study them, and learn from as many people as possible.

Practice discussing your ideas with others on a regular basis. Do it at the beginning, in the messy middle, and at the end.

Celebrate how others help you.

As you go, give courage to others and accept courage from them. Keeping going is hard work, and the more that can spur you on the better. Surround yourself with encourages!

Be honest and authentic. Don’t hide your fears and hopes. Share them. Give people the chance to journey with you, in the hard and good times.

And, when you need help, be there for each other. Teams are a strong base to live life together, especially if you are going to create the new.
